Are POGS making a comeback?

  • In the early years it seemed like we concentrated mainly on collectibles which to a large extend was true
  • Find a niche, become an expert in it and exploit it
  • Just as cards started dying out in came POGS and a new opportunity to marry license holders with manufactures…which is exactly what we did.

We were approached very early in the POG game about helping put together some deals.  Because of our experience with Peanuts and our connections we were able to step right in where we left off with the trading cards.  We quickly obtained the Peanuts licensee for POGS ourselves.  We then went on to find 6 or 7 POG manufactures who we then in turn sub-licensed our license to in return for a percentage of the profits.  At its peak our manufacturers were producing and selling well over 3,000,000 of the little round discs per month.  And the only thing we did.  Collect the checks, pay Peanuts and keep the rest for ourselves.  This was a very easy, clean and fun fad business.

Ex-Major League Baseball player and the TollGate process

  • We were hired by a large magazine to do a private signing with an ex-major league retired baseball player
  • While he is signing the 500 baseballs and we are having a casual conversation we find out the players ex-agent got him for everything he had…leaving him broke
  • After speaking with him at length and then talking with the magazine we come up with a quick solution for some quick cash

We go back to our client with the baseballs and tell the company of the plight with this world famous athlete.  They are very intrigued as they also run a large sports magazine with nationwide distribution.  After a round table secession we come up with a novel idea that will be a win win for everyone.  The magazine, with the athletes ok, held the first ever live national auction over the phones auctioning off a number of his personal items from when he played.  The magazine ran full page ads for a couple of months in their magazine describing all the items.  The athlete was brought back to the East Coast and sat in on the auction and actually answered questions from bidders.  It was a huge success and the start of a very profitable sideline for the magazine.  The athlete was paid on the spot with a nice high 5 figure check and was happy and very thankful.  We didn’t make any money on this deal but we did open the door for other deals with the company and many deals with the athlete and some of his retired buddies.

Money Making idea that is simple, easy and right under your nose…

Looking for an easy TollGate deal to get your feet wet?  Try this.  Find a local dry cleaner for the A side of the deal.  On the B side find a local dentist and propose the following to both A and B.  The dry cleaner hands out dozens of dry cleaned clothes each day.  Each client is a candidate who might need a dentist.  Simply put a nice compelling flier, with some money off coupon, on each of the clothes that go out offering a special deal.  The only expense is the flier.  When the dry cleaning customer uses the dentist the cleaner gets a $25 referral fee or some other type of compensation.  This is one of the fastest and easiest direct response forms of advertising.  The cost is low and results are easy to measure.  It sure beats sending out 10,000 mailers only to have 97% go in the garbage.  So if you are looking to get your feet wet in a TollGate to Riches deal try this.
